STATE OF NEBRASKA SEAL OF BILITERACY - AWARDED BY NILA
The SEAL OF BILITERACY is an award given to students who have attained proficiency in English and one other language by one's high school graduation. Appearing on the transcript of the graduating senior, the SEAL OF BILITERACY is a statement of accomplishment for gaining competency in two or more languages and is viewed as an asset when applying for a job or for college admission.
In awarding the SEAL OF BILITERACY to graduating seniors who met the requirements, we seek to:
The SEAL OF BILITERACY will be awarded to students in Nebraska who have mastered standard academic English, as well as a second language. Nebraska students wishing to receive the Seal must submit an application form to NILA and demonstrate that they have met both of the following requirements.
1. Student must be enrolled in two or more years of the same language OR be a native speaker of the language;
2) Achieve proficiency in one or more languages other than English by fulfilling one of the following options:
A) Attain a score of 4 or higher on the Advanced Placement [AP] Language exam.
B) Attain a score of 4 or higher on an international Baccalaureate [IB] Examination in a language other than English.
C) Attain a level of 4 or higher on all three sections of the AAPPL test.
D) Attain a score of 4 or higher on all four sections of the STAMP Test.
